AK Party's Çelik responds to CHP's call for 'streets' for lieutenants: An attempt to revive tutelage.

CHP IS PREPARING TO TAKE TO THE STREETS

The CHP is preparing to take to the streets ahead of the High Disciplinary Board (YDK) meeting where the final decision will be made. CHP Deputy Chairman Yankı Bağcıoğlu has called on retired soldiers like himself in this context.

CALL TO RETIRED SOLDIER GROUPS

Bağcıoğlu invited former officers and non-commissioned officers to the squares with Atatürk posters through a message he sent to retired soldier groups.

In the message titled "Bring the Atatürk poster" that he sent to WhatsApp groups, he stated: "Dear Commanders and valued comrades; to support our lieutenants who will be evaluated by the High Disciplinary Board of the Land Forces Command on January 16, 2025, with the spirit of camaraderie, we want to hold a press statement on January 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM in squares/areas to be determined in all our cities without any political considerations or thoughts, and to make our voices heard. We sincerely request your support and contributions to planning efforts in the provinces you are in. We expect not only retired soldiers but also all patriotic citizens with only Turkish flags and Atatürk posters at the press statements."

AK PARTY SPOKESPERSON ÇELİK: A VERY IRRESPONSIBLE APPROACH

AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik reacted to Bağcıoğlu's call for retired soldiers to take action. Çelik described the call as an attempt to revive guardianship.

In a post he made on social media, he stated: "The call of CHP Deputy Chairman Mr. Yankı Bağcıoğlu for retired soldiers to take action to influence the disciplinary mechanism under the Ministry of National Defense is a very irresponsible approach. Although Mr. Bağcıoğlu is a retired soldier, he is today the deputy chairman of a political party; his call naturally has a 'political' nature."

"CANNOT BE DEFINED IN ANY WAY OTHER THAN AN ATTEMPT TO REVIVE GUARDIANSHIP"

"Such a call is a blunder that will also put our retired soldiers into a very wrong framework. It is fundamentally wrong for the CHP Deputy Chairman to try to produce political activity through our retired soldiers. Expressing political views is one thing, taking action to influence military mechanisms is another. Making a call to the streets to influence military mechanisms has nothing to do with democracy. This call cannot be defined in any way other than an attempt to revive guardianship."
