Millions of retirees are focused on the inflation data to be announced on July 3, which will clarify pension raises. According to information leaked from behind the scenes, the AK Party will make a legal arrangement in Parliament to ensure the minimum pension does not fall below 23,500 TL. In the new period where an across-the-board raise is not being considered, the differences in base pensions will again be covered by the Treasury.

The countdown has begun for the July increase rates that will directly affect the income of millions of retirees in Turkey. With the June inflation figures to be announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) on July 3, the 6-month inflation difference and the increase rate for retirement pensions will be finalized.

6-MONTH INFLATION EXPECTATION AROUND 18 PERCENT

According to TUIK data, the inflation difference for the first 5 months of the year was realized at 16.6 percent. Based on the Central Bank's market participants survey, the June inflation expectation is projected at around 1.36 percent. If June inflation even comes in around 1 percent, it is expected that retirement pensions will be increased by close to 18 percent in July.

CRITICAL FIGURE FOR THE MINIMUM RETIREMENT PENSION: 23,500 TL

One of the most curious topics among retirees is how much the "minimum retirement pension" will be. To increase this amount, a legal regulation must be made and a law must be passed by the Parliament. According to AK Party sources, as reported by Yücel Kayaoğlu from Türkiye Newspaper, it was stated that the minimum retirement pension, which concerns approximately 5 million citizens, will not be below 23,500 TL.

After the 6-month inflation rate is finalized, with a law to be enacted, the difference for retirees whose base salary remains below 23,500 TL will again be covered by the Treasury and deposited into their accounts.

BAD NEWS FOR THOSE EXPECTING A FLAT INCREASE

As for another topic on the agenda, the possibility of a "flat increase," the doors are currently closed. AK Party officials reminded that in January, high-rate increases were made to the pensions of SSK and BAĞ-KUR retirees based on the civil servant raise rate, and shared the following details:

"After the inflation is announced in July, the minimum retirement pension will be increased this time by the raise rate applied to SSK and BAĞ-KUR retirees. According to estimates, if the six-month inflation comes out around 18 percent, the minimum retirement pension will see an increase of about 3,500-3,600 TL. Other than that, a flat increase is not currently being considered."

PARLIAMENT WILL WORK FOR RETIREES

Under normal circumstances, the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) General Assembly, which is required to go into recess on July 1 according to the Constitution and internal regulations, will continue its work for retirement pension regulations and other important laws. With a motion submitted by the AK Party, it was decided that the Parliament will work uninterruptedly until the end of July.

The General Assembly, which will take a short break due to the 36th NATO Summit to be held in Ankara on July 7-8, will reconvene on July 14. The Parliament's priority agenda item will be the draft law increasing the minimum retirement pension. Following this, the omnibus bill, the 12th judicial package, and other important regulations including the student amnesty will be addressed.
