The long-awaited snowfall is coming to Istanbul. Both the Istanbul Governorship and AKOM have issued consecutive warnings for the city. In its latest warning, AKOM announced that heavy snowfall is expected in Istanbul on Wednesday and Thursday, and that temperatures will drop below zero. It was noted that in some areas, snow accumulation could reach 10 to 20 centimeters.

MONDAY COLD WEATHER IS COMING

Starting from February 3, Monday, the city will be under the influence of a cold air wave originating from Siberia. Snowfall is expected in the city on February 5, Wednesday, and February 6, Thursday, with 1-5 centimeters of snow on Wednesday and up to 10 to 20 centimeters on Thursday. With the rapid drop in temperatures, icing and frost events are predicted.
HEAVY SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED ON THURSDAY
Temperatures are expected to drop below 0 degrees starting from Wednesday. According to AKOM's assessments: February 5, Wednesday: Snowfall may begin, temperatures will drop to 0°C. 1-3 cm of snow may fall. February 6, Thursday: Temperatures may remain below zero. A snow cover of 10 to 20 centimeters may form. February 7, Friday: Temperatures may range between 1-5 degrees, and the risk of icing and frost will increase.
BEWARE OF ICING AND FROST HAZARD
AKOM warned citizens about icing and frost events in Istanbul starting from Monday. Especially in the morning and evening hours, the risk of fog, frost, and icing will increase. While it is stated that disruptions in transportation may occur, authorities recommend not using private vehicles unless necessary. It is predicted that temperatures in the city will drop below seasonal norms starting from February 2 and will continue this way between February 3-10.
ISTANBUL GOVERNORATE ALSO ISSUES A WARNING
In a statement made from the governorate's social media account, it was stated that according to the General Directorate of Meteorology, the air temperature is expected to drop on February 4, Tuesday, and it is predicted that it will decrease by 6 to 12 degrees starting from February 5, Wednesday, falling below seasonal norms across the region.
It was noted that the expected minimum and maximum air temperatures for the day in Istanbul, starting from Tuesday, are expected to be 2/5 degrees.
It was stated in the announcement that the cold weather is expected to continue its effect over a one-week period, along with strong winds blowing from the north, and it is predicted that mixed rain and snowfall will be observed during this period.
