Mehmet Altınöz, Deputy Chairman of the New Welfare Party, stated, "We do not want Öcalan to have the right to hope; he has no such right. We do not accept a pardon for Öcalan as stated in the report."
Mehmet Altınöz answered questions from presenter Melis Yaşar on Haberler.com. Altınöz made striking evaluations on many topics, from the discussions about the right to hope in the fight against terrorism to the impact of TV series on society, from drug policies to economic data and expectations for early elections.
"WE DO NOT WANT HIM TO HAVE THE RIGHT TO HOPE"
Speaking about the discussion regarding granting the right to hope to PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Altınöz said, "We do not want Abdullah Öcalan to have the right to hope. We believe he has no such right. If there is going to be a right to hope, what will happen to the rights of the families of martyrs? What will their hopes be? I want to ask the parliamentarians who should be granted this right, what will happen to the hopes of the child of our martyr police brother or our veterans?"
CALL FOR REFERENDUM
Altınöz also stated, "As a result, we will put a note of dissent on the 60-page report in today's meeting. In the note, we want the issue of the right to hope to be voted on by our citizens through a referendum, a public vote. Our citizens should be asked about this. Let our citizens make this decision. It is not possible to bring back the lives lost, but it is our duty to protect the families of our martyrs left behind."
