A hunting party organized in the African country of Gabon ended in tragedy. American millionaire hunter Ernie Dosio lost his life after being attacked by a herd of elephants while attempting to hunt a rare antelope species in Gabon’s rainforests. The safari company confirmed the death, while US authorities initiated efforts to repatriate Dosio’s remains to his home country.

HUNTING TOURISM DEBATES BACK ON THE AGENDA
The incident has also brought the debates about big-game hunting tourism and ethics back to the forefront. While it is known that tens of thousands of wild animals are killed each year worldwide as part of hunting tourism, legal hunting activities in Africa remain popular among wealthy tourists in particular.
Experts point out the sensitivity of the ecosystem in Gabon, which is home to a large portion of the African forest elephant population, emphasizing that such encounters often occur as a result of the animals' self-defense reflex.
