In the incident that occurred on the morning of August 14 in Izmir, renowned doctor Özlem Gültekin lost her life due to a heart attack in her clinic. A funeral ceremony was held for the late Op. Dr. Özlem Gültekin at Hacı Mustafa Beşikçioğlu Mosque in Karsiyaka, Izmir. After the funeral prayer performed following the afternoon prayer, Gültekin's body was laid to rest with tears at Ornekkoy Cemetery. It was learned that after the funeral, the prosecutor's office launched an official investigation due to suspicions surrounding Gültekin's death.
DIVORCE PROCESS AND VIOLENCE ALLEGATIONS
Özlem Gültekin and news anchor Erhan Çelik married in Izmir in 2019, and in 2020, their child, whom they named Ali Boran, was born. In December 2025, Gültekin applied to the prosecutor's office and filed for divorce, citing physical and psychological violence by her husband Erhan Çelik. In the allegations included in the investigation file, Gültekin claimed that Çelik pulled her hair, slammed her head against the car window, beat her, and threatened her.
CASE FILED SEEKING PRISON SENTENCE
Following the incidents, the prosecutor's office prepared an indictment against Erhan Çelik, seeking a prison sentence of 2 years and 3 months to 5 years and 3 months for the crimes of "threatening a woman" and "simple intentional injury against a woman." Çelik, who denied the charges, requested that digital materials be examined by an expert and argued that the beginning of the violence footage reflected in the press had been cut off.
