Araghchi: Agreement with the US has never been this close.

Araghchi: Agreement with the US has never been this close.

12.06.2026 18:30

The negotiations between the US and Iran have turned into a complete never-ending story. Tehran, denying Trump's claim that "we made a perfect deal with Iran, signatures will be exchanged on Sunday," spoke entirely differently in its new statement. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, "A memorandum of understanding has never been this close." It was noteworthy that Araghchi's remarks came after Trump's threat, "Iran should come to its senses."

Diplomatic relations between the US and Iran have entered a volatile phase with contradictory statements from both sides. US President Donald Trump claimed they have reached an excellent agreement with Iran and that signatures would be exchanged on Sunday. Immediately after this claim, Trump issued a harsh threat to Iran, telling them to 'get their act together.'

IRAN: WE WILL EXPLAIN EVERYTHING AT THE APPROPRIATE TIME

The Tehran administration flatly denied Trump's claim pointing to Sunday for signing. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi did not completely shut the door despite the tension, stating, 'A memorandum of understanding has never been this close. Until final approval, everyone should avoid speculation about the media content. We will explain everything at the appropriate time.' This was interpreted as a serious behind-the-scenes negotiation process continuing between the two countries.

TRUMP: WE MADE AN EXCELLENT DEAL WITH IRAN

Meanwhile, Trump stated in his remarks that they had reached a significant compromise with Iran, using the following words:

'We made an excellent deal with Iran. Signatures could be exchanged in the coming days. We have an agreement that Iran will never possess nuclear weapons. We hope this will happen relatively quickly, but the straits will open as soon as the deal is signed. The signing ceremony could be on Saturday or Monday. We think this will move quite quickly.'

The US President also argued that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened following the signing of the agreement.

TURKEY DETAIL IN NEGOTIATIONS

Trump stated that he continues to maintain contacts with regional leaders during the process and announced that he has spoken with the leaders of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. Trump also said he will meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the coming days, highlighting Turkey's role in the process.

EYES TURNED TO GENEVA AND THE G7 SUMMIT

According to a Bloomberg report citing senior sources, it was suggested that the US and Iran could reach a consensus on a memorandum of understanding before the final agreement.

According to the claim, the text is planned to be signed in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 14, followed by the second phase of the diplomatic process. Some sources indicated that Vienna is also among the options for the signing.

CLEAR MESSAGE FROM IRAN: NO DECISION YET

Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency published a report based on statements from a source close to the Iranian negotiation team.

The report stated that the claims that an agreement would be signed between Iran and the US in Geneva on Sunday do not reflect reality, and noted that the allegations put forward by US President Donald Trump and some international media outlets that 'the deal is finalized and will be signed in Geneva on Sunday' are not true.

The report also emphasized that Iranian authorities are continuing their review of the relevant text and have not yet made a decision on the matter.

TRUMP'S SWIFT RESPONSE: IRAN SHOULD GET ITS ACT TOGETHER

Responding to Iran's statements, US President Donald Trump said, 'Iran should get its act together; the conditions leaked by Iranian media have nothing to do with what was agreed upon.'

In his statement, Trump said: 'The conditions leaked by Iran to the press have nothing to do with the conditions that were agreed upon in writing. What they are saying, including their pathetic statements about having made a deal, does not match reality at all. Dealing with them is extremely dishonorable. There is no such thing as making a good-faith deal with them. Unbelievable!

Also, the drone attacks last night on Indian ships leaving the Strait of Hormuz, which were completely repelled, are absolutely unacceptable. They need to get their act together immediately, and I mean now!'

14 ARTICLES OF THE AGREEMENT:

According to claims reported in the Iranian press, the 14 articles of the agreement to be signed between Washington and Tehran are as follows:

Iran's missile program and support for resistance groups are definitively removed from the agenda.
