In Izmir, businessman Murat Ekinci (54) was injured in a gun attack in front of his house. As images of the incident emerged, Ekinci, who was discharged after treatment, stated, "I have no safety. I am asking for help from my government. I borrowed 6 million TL, I paid back 30 million TL. They asked for another 40 million TL. I did not give it. My gas station was shot at, and shots were fired in front of my house," he said.
Murat Ekinci, who operates a gas station and car gallery in Menemen district, was attacked with a firearm on May 2 at around 09:30, as he was getting into his car in front of his house on 5019 Street to go to work. Ekinci, who is married and a father of three, was injured in his right leg and abdomen. He was taken to a private hospital in the district by bystanders and received treatment. Footage of the incident, which was captured by the security camera of a nearby house, has emerged. The video shows a hooded and masked individual targeting businessman Murat Ekinci's left window and firing, then fleeing on foot, and moments later firing again as a car passed by.
RENTAL CAR WAS USED
Gendarmerie teams determined that the vehicle used in the attack had fake plates and was rented. Two suspects, who were identified as having rented the car, were taken into custody. The suspects were released after their statements. Gendarmerie teams have initiated work to identify and capture the individuals who actually carried out the armed attack. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
HE SHARED HIS EXPERIENCES
After being discharged from treatment, Murat Ekinci recounted his experiences, saying, "The attacker was aiming at my head. I immediately threw myself into the car. The bullets hit my abdomen and leg. Then they fired another 7-8 shots. The bullets that hit my neighbor's and my car caused damage. I have no safety. I am asking for help from my government and the Ministry of Justice. They should support me," he said.
"I AM IN A DIFFICULT SITUATION"
Stating that the suspects have not yet been caught, Ekinci said, "The Menemen District Gendarmerie Command is conducting the investigation meticulously. They are doing their best, but unfortunately, there are no arrests or detainees. I am a victim. I trust my state and justice. I borrowed 6 million TL. I paid back 30 million TL. However, they asked for another 40 million TL. I did not give it. As a result, my gas station was shot at twice before, and shots were fired in front of my house once. I am in a difficult situation; my children's safety is at risk," he said.
