According to the Philippines News Agency (PNA), the Quezon City Regional Court issued an arrest warrant for Sara Duterte, who faces charges of "making death and assassination threats."
COURT ALSO SETS BAIL AMOUNT
The court set bail at $1,900 for each of the charges against Duterte.
The Philippine Presidential Office, in its statement on the decision, said it respects the judicial process and the court's ruling.
ACCUSED OF THREATENING MARCOS AND HIS RELATIVES
Sara Duterte is accused of making death and assassination threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., his wife Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Duterte also faces charges related to the alleged misuse of public funds. Vice President Duterte, for her part, denies the allegations against her.
COULD AFFECT 2028 PRESIDENTIAL RACE
It is noted that if Duterte is found guilty, she could face significant consequences for her political career. If she is barred from public office, her chances of participating in the presidential elections scheduled for 2028 could also be eliminated.
