According to claims in the US press, a person first crashed their vehicle into the synagogue and then opened fire. In statements made by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and local law enforcement agencies, it was reported that the suspect engaged in a confrontation with the teams dispatched to the area.

In the first images shared from the scene, smoke was seen rising from the roof of the synagogue, and numerous police vehicles were present nearby.
FBI: INTERVENTION IN PROGRESS
FBI Director Kash Patel stated in a post on social media, "FBI teams are responding to the vehicle crash and armed attack incident at Temple Israel Synagogue in Michigan, along with our partners."
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard stated that there were no injuries in the incident and mentioned that the suspect has not yet been apprehended. The Michigan State Police, in a warning following the attack, requested the public to stay away from the area, stating, "Teams are also increasing patrols at other places of worship in the area."
