The Turkish-flagged dry cargo ship "Mv Reyhan Sarı," carrying coal from Russia's Taman Port to Trabzon, was attacked by a UAV/drone off Novorossiysk. It has been learned that one Turkish crew member in the engine room lost his life in the attack, while treatment continues for three injured personnel.
Security risks targeting commercial vessels in the Black Sea are escalating. The Turkish-flagged dry cargo ship "Mv Reyhan Sarı," which had loaded coal from Russia's Taman Port and set sail to deliver it to Trabzon, was targeted by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) / drone attack off the coast of Novorossiysk.
1 TURKISH CREW MEMBER LOSES LIFE
The attack allegedly occurred in international waters off the coast of Samsun in the Black Sea. It was learned that the vessel retained its navigational capability after the attack. The Turkish-flagged cargo ship named "Mv Reyhan Sarı," registered in the Istanbul port registry with IMO number 9543342, was attacked off Novorossiysk while en route to discharge its coal cargo, loaded from Russia's Taman Port, in Trabzon. According to available information, the drone attack caused material damage to the ship, and one Turkish crew member working in the engine room lost his life at the scene.
It was learned that three injured crew members were transferred to the nearest healthcare facilities in the region for initial treatment after the attack, and their medical care is ongoing. Following the attack, security measures on the ship were increased, and search and rescue efforts as well as technical investigations are reported to be continuing in the area where the incident occurred. Official statements from authorities regarding the incident and the health status of the crew are expected.
