The Ministry of Trade announced on May 9 that it has banned two more products due to safety concerns. The room fragrance branded Viole & More is being recalled because it lacks tactile warnings on its packaging, while the Serra Plastik toy car is being withdrawn from the market because it contains phthalates, which are known to have carcinogenic effects.

The Ministry of Trade continues its inspections against products that threaten human health with determination. In the latest announcement, it was stated that the sale of two different products was banned due to being found unsafe, and a decision was made to withdraw them from the market.

The first product mentioned in the announcement dated May 9 is the "Bamboo Model Reed Diffuser Stick Room Fragrance (100 ml)" belonging to the brand "Viole & More." It was noted that this product, with the barcode number "6600027653261," lacks the tactile warning sign that should be present on its packaging. This deficiency led to a ban on the sale of the product due to the serious risk it poses to visually impaired individuals.

The other banned product is a toy car from the brand Serra Plastik. Laboratory analyses revealed that the product contained phthalate substances above legal limits. Due to the phthalates, which are noted in scientific studies to have carcinogenic effects and pose a risk of infertility, this product is also being withdrawn from the market. The Ministry of Trade warned consumers to be cautious against such products and emphasized that similar inspections will continue to increase.

WHAT ARE PHTHALATES?

Phthalates are chemical substances used to soften and make plastics flexible. They are commonly found in toys, packaging materials, cleaning products, cosmetics, and personal care products.

HARMS

  • Can disrupt the hormonal system (endocrine-disrupting effect),
  • Can increase the risk of infertility,
  • Can lead to developmental disorders (especially in children),
  • Can cause allergic reactions and respiratory problems,
  • Some types are classified as carcinogenic.

For this reason, the use of phthalates in children's products has been restricted or banned in many countries.
