Minister of Internal Affairs Mustafa Çiftçi, announcing traffic measures before Eid al-Adha, stated that 1,238 personnel will conduct inspections on buses as undercover passengers for road safety. Çiftçi noted that a total of 334 thousand law enforcement officers will be on duty during the holiday, emphasizing that the inspections are aimed at preventing accidents and loss of life, not issuing fines.
Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi announced the measures to be taken for citizens to travel safely during Eid al-Adha. Çiftçi said, “334,017 law enforcement personnel have been assigned for the holiday. Of these, 66,481 personnel are assigned within the scope of traffic measures. Throughout the holiday, 1,238 personnel will conduct bus inspections as undercover passengers across the country. 116 teams consisting of police and gendarmerie inspectors and Traffic Directorates have been assigned for on-site inspections.”
Emphasizing that no trap radar applications will be used, Minister Çiftçi stated, “The purpose of our inspections is not to issue fines, but to reduce rule violations, accidents, and the number of incidents. The state does not set traps for its citizens. It is on duty to provide guidance, show the way, and be there when needed.”
Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi, who met with journalists at a meeting also attended by Ankara News.com Ankara Representative Şerife Güzel, announced that traffic measures to prevent loss of life due to traffic accidents were planned for 11 days between May 22, when traffic activity begins, and June 1, 2026, the first working day after the end of the holiday.
860 LIVES LOST DURING EID AL-ADHA IN 2021-2024
Minister Çiftçi shared data regarding years with holidays of nine days or more. Minister Çiftçi said, “During the Eid al-Adha periods between 2021 and 2024, a total of 1,003 rule violations occurred: 425 for speeding, 233 for lane tracking, changing, and weaving, 107 for failing to yield right of way and turn rules, 77 for rear-end collisions, 18 for red light violations, and 143 for other errors. These errors caused 860 deaths.”
Providing information about the loss of life during the Eid al-Adha holidays between 2021 and 2024, Minister Çiftçi stated, “In 2021, 6,469 accidents occurred; in 2022, 6,132; in 2023, 7,408; and in 2024, 7,319 accidents resulted in death or injury. In 2021, there were 212 deaths and 11,719 injuries; in 2022, 177 deaths and 10,702 injuries; in 2023, 257 deaths and 13,089 injuries; and in 2024, 214 deaths and 12,282 injuries. The average number of deaths was 23.6 in 2021, 17.7 in 2022, 28.6 in 2023, and 23.8 in 2024.”
334,000 LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL TO SERVE DURING THE HOLIDAY
Sharing the numbers of law enforcement personnel to serve within the scope of holiday measures, Minister Çiftçi said, “334,017 law enforcement personnel have been assigned. 66,481 of these personnel are assigned within traffic measures. Seatbelt warning announcements will be made at intercity bus terminals, and emphasis will be placed on seatbelt inspections on intercity buses and other vehicles at terminal exits and on routes. Throughout the holiday, 1,238 personnel will conduct bus inspections as undercover passengers across the country.”
ALL 81 PROVINCES TO BE INSPECTED WITH DRONES
Providing information on aerial measures to be taken across the country, Minister Çiftçi announced that inspections would be carried out with helicopters for 108 hours in 9 provinces and with drones for 5,828 hours in all 81 provinces, totaling 5,936 hours of aerial vehicle inspections. Minister Çiftçi stated, “Teams consisting of police, gendarmerie inspectors, and ranking officers from traffic directorates have been assigned to inspect traffic measures on-site across the country. 73 police teams and 43 gendarmerie teams will serve nationwide.”
NO TRAP RADAR APPLICATION
Stating that speed checks will be conducted on a 21,682-kilometer route using 520 EDS (Electronic Control Systems) in 61 provinces during the holiday break, Minister Çiftçi said, “Information on EDS points and routes can be learned via our HAYAT 112 Emergency Mobile application. Inspections will be carried out with a total of 1,581 mobile radars, 619 from the General Directorate of Security and 962 from the Gendarmerie General Command.” Emphasizing that no trap radar applications will be used, Minister Çiftçi stated, “The purpose of our inspections is not to issue fines, but to reduce rule violations, accidents, and the number of incidents. The state does not set traps for its citizens; it protects their lives, peace, and safety. Our personnel in the field are on duty to guide our citizens, show them the way, be with them when needed, and contribute to ensuring that holiday journeys are completed safely.”

INSPECTIONS IN CITIES TO BE CONDUCTED VIA KGYS
Stating that inspections will be carried out in cities, Minister Çiftçi provided information on the measures to be taken. Minister Çiftçi said, “Inspections will be conducted via KGYS cameras for actions that cause the most accidents and loss of life in cities: weaving, improper lane changes, failing to yield right of way at intersections, not maintaining safe following distance, using cell phones while driving, violating turning rules, and running red lights.”
STATIONS AND TERMINALS TO BE INSPECTED
Announcing that intercity bus terminals and intermediate stations will be inspected, Minister Çiftçi said, “Drivers and passengers will be informed and ensured to fasten their seatbelts. Emphasis will be placed on tachograph inspections of vehicles carrying cargo and passengers. Except for mandatory cases, violations such as stopping or parking will not be allowed at rest areas, fuel stations, highways, and state roads, and our teams will check the routes. Since the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure will not issue special permits between May 23-31, 2026, for vehicles exceeding legal weight and size limits, such vehicles will not be allowed on the road.”
BANS ON TRUCKS AND TRACTORS TRAVELING ON CERTAIN ROADS ANNOUNCED
Announcing that the travel of trucks, tractors, and tanker-type vehicles is banned on some highways from 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 30, 2026, to 1:00 AM on Monday, June 1, 2026, Minister Çiftçi warned, “Towards Istanbul direction: restrictions will be applied from Kırklareli on the D-100 highway and O-3 motorway; from Tekirdağ on the D-110 highway and O-7 motorway; from Sakarya on the O-7 motorway; from Ankara on the O-4 and D-750 highways; from Amasya Merzifon on the D-100 highway; from Bursa on the O-5 motorway and D-575 and D-595 highways; and from Bilecik Bozüyük on the D-650 highway, including entries from Manisa, Balıkesir, Bursa, Yalova, Kocaeli and from Antalya, Burdur, Isparta, Afyonkarahisar, Kütahya, Bilecik, Sakarya on the D-650 highway. Towards Ankara direction: on the D-200 highway from Bilecik Bozüyük and Sivas to Ankara, on the D-300 highway from İzmir to Afyonkarahisar, on the D-260 highway from Afyonkarahisar to Eskişehir Sivrihisar and from Kayseri to Kırşehir, on the D-260 and D-765 highways from Kırşehir to Kırıkkale, and on the D-785 and D-190 highways from Çorum to Kırıkkale, passages will not be allowed.”
ADDITIONAL MEASURES TO BE TAKEN AT MARTYRS' CEMETERIES
Minister Çiftçi, announcing that additional measures have been taken due to the potential density at martyrs' cemeteries and grave visits, said, “Additional traffic measures will be planned in areas where our citizens may be densely present and their surroundings. Additional measures will be taken on 20 routes in 17 provinces where loss of life has intensified during previous holidays.”
