The ongoing negotiations for the formation of a new government in Austria have stalled. Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer announced that he would resign in the coming days following the failure of coalition talks. WHAT HAPPENED?The negotiations to form a new government in Austria collapsed after the liberal New Austria and Liberal Forum (Neos) party, the smallest potential partner, withdrew from the talks. Neos was trying to establish a three-party ruling coalition with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer's Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) and the center-left Social Democrats after the far-right Freedom Party (FPÖ) won the national elections held in September. Nehammer's party and the Social Democrats hold 92 of the 183 seats, giving them the minimum possible majority in parliament to govern together.
