The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Kayseri Deputy Baki Ersoy submitted a proposal to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for a "Law on the Non-Application of Sentence Reductions for Serious Crimes Committed Against Women and Children and the Increase of Penalties" following the recent femicide that occurred on the Erciyes University campus in Kayseri.
REDUCTIONS ARE COMPLETELY REMOVED, PENALTIES ARE INCREASED
In a statement he made on his social media account regarding the issue, Ersoy noted that the incident caused deep sorrow in society and emphasized that deterrent measures for such crimes have become inevitable.
Ersoy stated that their proposal includes the complete removal of mitigating factors such as good behavior, provocation, and remorse reductions in crimes against women and children, and expressed that the aim is to increase the upper limits of penalties for these crimes and to base judicial processes on the behavior of the perpetrator rather than the victim.
PREPARED WITH BAHÇELİ'S APPROVAL
MHP's Ersoy mentioned that the proposal was prepared with the approval of the party's General Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, stating that justice must be served in the harshest manner for crimes committed against women and children.
Ersoy pointed out that society now wants to see real justice, not mitigating reasons, and emphasized that he will closely follow the legislative process of the proposal and that they will fight with determination on this issue.
Ersoy's statement is as follows;
