The Minimum Wage Determination Commission will hold its first meeting today as part of its work to determine the minimum wage that will be valid in 2025.
The new minimum wage figure, which directly concerns approximately 7 million employees and indirectly affects the entire society, has a clear timeline for its determination. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission Meeting, hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, will start today at 16:00. The minimum wage figure will affect many items, including unemployment benefits, severance pay, GSS premiums, military and maternity debt payments, voluntary insurance premiums, internship wages, and the report fees of minimum wage earners. THERE WILL BE 4 WORKERS IN THE COMMISSIONBy law, the minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 members, with five representatives each from workers, employers, and the government. In the meeting, the employer side will be represented by the Turkish Employers' Associations Confederation (TİSK), while the worker side will be represented by TÜRK-İŞ, as it has the most members. The employer delegation will be chaired by TİSK Secretary General Akansel Koç, while the worker delegation will be chaired by TÜRK-İŞ Vice President Ramazan Ağar. This year, the worker delegation led by TÜRK-İŞ Vice President Ramazan Ağar will again include 4 workers. The workers are Selma Sayın, a cook; Nihan Koçak, a hairdresser; Durmuş Öztürk, a subcontractor worker from the Highways; and Sezer Öztürk, a press member. WHAT IS THE CURRENT MINIMUM WAGEThe minimum wage is applied as a gross monthly amount of 20,002.50 Turkish Lira for a worker, and after taxes and deductions, the net amount is 17,012.00 Turkish Lira. The total cost of the minimum wage to the employer is 23,502.94 Turkish Lira for one worker. POSSIBLE INCREASE RATES FOR MINIMUM WAGEWhile different scenarios regarding minimum wage increase predictions are being discussed, the rate at which negotiations for the new minimum wage will begin is also becoming clearer. Based on public expectations, it is anticipated that negotiations will start with a demand for a minimum increase of 25-35%. According to possible scenarios regarding the minimum wage, the wages will be shaped as follows: If a 20% increase is made, the minimum wage will be 20,402 Turkish Lira. If a 25% increase is made, the minimum wage will be 21,252 Turkish Lira. If a 30% increase is made, the minimum wage will be 22,102 Turkish Lira. If a 35% increase is made, the minimum wage will be 22,502 Turkish Lira. If a 40% increase is made, the minimum wage will be 23,802 Turkish Lira.
