The Chairman of the Capital Markets Board (CMB), İbrahim Ömer Gönül, stated that they expect new public offerings in December, adding that it would not be correct to specify a number for now.
Speaking at the 4th Portfolio Management Summit organized by the Association of Institutional Investors of Turkey (TKYD) in Istanbul, Gönül answered questions from the press during the exit. SHORT SELLING BAN IS LIFTINGIn response to a question about whether the short selling ban will be lifted, Gönül said, "Our work is ongoing. We plan to determine this and implement it before the beginning of the year. Hopefully, it will be completed in time. We continue to gather the sector's opinions on this matter." he stated. When asked whether the arrival of this would create a problem in the medium term, Gönül replied, "We are already consulting with the entire sector. It would be wrong to take a step in this regard without obtaining the sector's opinion. We are in discussions with them. We will make the necessary changes at the appropriate time." he expressed. In response to the question, "You mentioned that you were working on the index. Is there clarity on whether it will be BIST 30 or BIST 50?" Gönül emphasized that they have discussed all of them with the sector and that they will not take a step without consensus. NEW PUBLIC OFFERINGS EXPECTED IN DECEMBERIn response to the question of whether there will be new public offerings in December, İbrahim Ömer Gönül said, "We expect it. (How many will there be?) It would be wrong to specify a number there. We will look at it based on the completion of the files and the requests of the companies." he replied.
In response to a question about how 2025 will go for public offerings, Gönül stated, "The demand for public offerings is quite high, just like last year. I believe the demand here will continue. Accordingly, we plan to continue public offerings based on the market conditions." he said.
When asked how he interprets the exit of major airline companies from the participation index, Gönül explained, "The conditions determining the participation index are the work of the Exchange itself. We only provide support there. The Exchange already makes this assessment according to the standards there."
