Former U.S. President Joe Biden issued a preemptive pardon for family members just minutes before leaving office. Biden also granted pardons for some individuals whom Trump had 'targeted for retaliation.'
Former President Joe Biden, who officially handed over the seat to the 47th President Donald Trump in the U.S., issued a pardon for his three brothers and two sisters-in-law with a decree published just minutes before the end of his term.
PROTECTED AGAINST LAWSUITS
Thanks to this, Biden's two brothers, James and Francis Biden, and his sister Valerie have been protected against potential lawsuits.
"MY FAMILY HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO RUTHLESS ATTACKS MOTIVATED BY A DESIRE TO HARM ME"
Biden stated that the pardons are a precaution, emphasizing that his aim is to prevent potential lawsuits that may arise from "baseless political motivations." In his statement, Biden said: "My family has been subjected to ruthless attacks and threats motivated solely by a desire to harm me, the worst kind of partisan politics. Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe that these attacks will come to an end. Therefore, I am exercising my constitutional authority to pardon James B Biden, Sara Jones Biden, Valerie Biden Owens, John T Owens, and Francis W Biden."
BIDEN ALSO ISSUED PARDONS FOR NAMES TARGETED BY TRUMP
Additionally, Biden issued a 'preventive pardon' for some individuals that Trump had 'targeted for retaliation.' The pardon covers all individuals who served on the Congressional committee established to investigate the January 6, 2021, attack on Congress by Trump supporters. Among those Biden has pardoned are former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, former Republican Representative Liz Cheney, and former White House Chief Medical Advisor Anthony Fauci.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Today, around 8:00 PM Turkish time, Donald Trump, the 47th President of the United States, officially took over the office by taking an oath from Joe Biden. After winning the presidential election, he had called for the prosecution of individuals he perceived as 'enemies.'
Cheney became a target for Trump due to her leadership in the Congressional investigation, while Fauci had clashed with Trump during the coronavirus pandemic. Milley had stated in Bob Woodward's book 'Peril' that Trump was 'essentially a fascist.'
HUNTER BIDEN WAS TRIED
Hunter Biden, the son of U.S. President Joe Biden, was found guilty of lying to purchase a firearm while concealing drug use.
