Suspects posing as MIT officers defrauded a 53-year-old psychologist of approximately 10 million lira by claiming there was a terrorism investigation against her. The moment the suspects waited for the woman they defrauded at Şişli Maçka Park to collect gold and foreign currency was captured on security camera.
Teams from the Istanbul Police Department Security Timelines detained 3 individuals they suspected during an inspection on April 2, 2026, at around 5:00 PM in Sultangazi Esentepe District. During the search of the identified individuals O.S. (21), Y.E.G. (18), and M.T. (21), 155 grams of gold and 19,800 dollars were seized.
VICTIM REACHED VIA NAME ON RECEIPT Police teams contacted a woman named M.A. (53) based on the name on a receipt found among the gold and money. During the conversation, it emerged that M.A. had been deceived by individuals posing as MIT officers, claiming, "There is a terror investigation against you."
SHE GAVE 10 MILLION TL IN PIECES It was learned that the woman gave gold and foreign currency worth approximately 10 million TL to the suspects in pieces between March 7 and April 2.
It was determined that the gold and currency found on the suspects were delivered by the victim on the same day around Şişli Maçka Park. The suspects were apprehended at the checkpoint, taken into custody, and the seized gold and money were confiscated.
O.S. (left), Y.E.G. (center), and M.T. (right) THEY WERE ARRESTED After their police procedures were completed, O.S., Y.E.G., and M.T. were referred to court on charges of "Qualified Fraud." The suspects were arrested by the court and sent to prison.
