In the incident that took place in Istanbul's Arnavutköy district, it was claimed that 6-year-old autistic Helin Naz Budak was forcibly pushed into a water channel by older children. The moments when the little girl, who was hospitalized with a head injury and received 7 stitches on her head, was pushed into the channel were captured second by second on security camera footage.
In the Yunus Emre neighborhood of Arnavutköy district, 6-year-old autistic Helin Naz Budak, who was spending time on the street where her home is located, was subjected to cruel peer bullying by older children.
HORRIFYING MOMENTS CAPTURED ON CAMERA
Footage from a nearby business's security camera revealed the severity of the incident. In the images, the little girl is seen being taken toward a water channel by other children and pushed into the channel after several attempts. Following the incident, Helin Naz sustained serious head injuries, was taken to the hospital for treatment, and received 7 stitches on her head.
"THEY FORCIBLY TOOK MY DAUGHTER"
Mother Emine Budak, who learned of the incident by chance when her other daughter informed her, described the horrifying moments and her feelings upon watching the security camera footage with these words:
"My daughter came to me and said Helin Naz had fallen. I immediately went downstairs. At that time, a child was trying to pull her out of the channel. After going to the hospital, we were told there was a security camera nearby. When we watched the footage the next day, we saw they had forcibly taken my daughter to the water channel. In the images, they try to push her several times; she doesn't fall on the first attempts. Then they push her again, and she falls into the water channel. As my daughter tries to crawl on the ground, they intervene again."
SHE FILED A COMPLAINT: THEY SAID 'THEY'RE JUST CHILDREN'
Stating that although other children in the neighborhood knew about the incident, no one informed her, mother Budak went to the police station and filed a complaint. Reacting to the response she received, the grieving mother appealed to authorities:
"I went to the police station and filed a complaint. They told me 'they're just children.' My daughter is autistic. She cannot speak or express herself. She received 7 stitches on her head, and we went through very difficult days. My only wish is that after my daughter, no other child experiences the same pain. I ask the authorities to take the necessary steps regarding this matter."
Police teams have launched a detailed investigation into the incident that caused the little girl's serious injuries, and it is ongoing.
