In an air-assisted operation conducted in 7 provinces based in Izmir, 9 suspects were caught, determined to have made false reports involving bombs, prostitution, and terrorist attacks for money through a group they established on Telegram. Of the suspects, who were found to have made a total of 45 false reports in different provinces and to have blackmailed complainants, 7 were arrested.
In an operation centered in İzmir and carried out in Istanbul, Antalya, Afyonkarahisar, Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa, and Muğla, 9 suspects who were determined to have made false reports and blackmail via Telegram were apprehended. Of the suspects referred to the courthouse, 7 were arrested.
FALSE REPORTS AND BLACKMAIL IN EXCHANGE FOR MONEY
Under the coordination of the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, teams from the İzmir Police Department Organized Crime Combating Branch Directorate and Intelligence Branch Directorate conducted an investigation. During the efforts, it was determined that the suspects had created a group on the Telegram application. It was established that the suspects, acting in an organized manner through this group, made false reports for money involving bombs, prostitution, and terrorist attacks that could cause public outrage. It was determined that the suspects, who made a total of 45 false reports in different provinces, obtained unjust economic benefits through acts of blackmail and threats against the complainants.
AIR-SUPPORTED OPERATION IN 7 PROVINCES
Air-supported joint operations were carried out centered in İzmir, in Istanbul, Antalya, Afyonkarahisar, Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa, and the Fethiye district of Muğla. During the operations, 9 suspects were apprehended and taken into custody. After their procedures at the police station, 7 of the suspects referred to judicial authorities were arrested.
