More than 50 schools in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate received emails containing bomb threats. As a precaution, schools were evacuated.
BOMB THREAT TO 56 SCHOOLS IN GERMANY
As of Monday morning, at least 56 schools across the state received these threats. The texts of the threatening emails sent to schools in cities such as Trier, Aach, Bernkastel-Kues, and Idar-Oberstein were the same, and the threats matched those sent across Germany on Friday.
SCHOOLS WERE EVACUATED
According to the police, although most of these threats are believed to be fake, each one is being investigated seriously. Schools in many areas, including Kaiserslautern, Koblenz, Mainz, and Ludwigshafen, were evacuated or classes were suspended.
ALL SENT FROM THE SAME EMAIL
All threats were sent from the same email address. The Rhineland-Palatinate State Criminal Police Office (LKA) is working to reach the sender. The LKA stated that such threats are serious crimes and that the perpetrator could face severe penalties.
Education Minister Sven Teuber and Interior Minister Michael Ebling condemned the threats strongly, announcing that all support would be provided to ensure the safety of schools.
