A Cameroon-flagged cargo ship in the Karasu district of Sakarya drifted and ran aground on the shores of Karasu Public Beach due to a severe storm. Efforts have been initiated to safely evacuate the 8-person crew on board.
RESCUE OPERATION WITH "LINE-THROWING ROCKETS"
Upon notification, coast safety, coast guard, AFAD, gendarmerie, police, and fire brigade teams were dispatched to the region.
A rescue operation was launched for the 8 crew members—7 Azerbaijani and 1 Turkish—on the ship. Due to adverse weather conditions, the rescue could not be carried out by sea or air and is being conducted using "line-throwing rockets." Personnel boarding a basket attached to the line delivered to the ship are brought to the shore. Meanwhile, the ship, which has started taking on water, was observed to be listing slightly.
8 PERSONNEL RESCUED
In the challenging evacuation operation carried out via this system, all 8 personnel stranded on the ship and reported to be in good general health were rescued one by one by being pulled over the sea to the shore.
Meanwhile, Karasu District Governor Mehmet Uğur Arslan also came to the region to conduct an inspection and received information from officials.
