Bulgaria Heads To Fresh Elections As Parties Fail To Form Government

05.05.2021 14:12

President to dissolve parliament, setting July 11 for early elections.

Bulgaria is heading for a fresh election after the country's largest parties have been unable to form a government after the parliamentary elections held on April 4.

With the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the third-largest in parliament, having failed to form a government, the country will now hold early elections on July 11.

Korneliya Ninova, the leader of the BSP, to whom President Rumen Radev tapped to form a government, has said her party did not receive support from the second-largest party in the parliament.

Ninova added that during the Supreme Council Session held over the weekend, she decided not to establish a cabinet and immediately returned the task to the president.

Following the BSP's failure to form a government, President Radev announced that he would dissolve parliament next week and set a date for early elections on July 11, in accordance with the Bulgarian Constitution.

After Radev dissolves parliament, he will form a "government of technocrats" that will prepare for the elections and run the country until a government is formed. -
