Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was arrested a few days ago as part of a terrorism investigation. Can Aksoy, the Deputy Governor of Istanbul, was appointed in place of Özer.
Following Özer's arrest, a public meeting was held yesterday in Esenyurt Republic Square after a call from the CHP. Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, and Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal did not attend the public meeting.
It was reported that Yavaş did not attend the rally due to a funeral program. Tanju Özcan explained his absence from the rally on social media, stating, "I did not want to tweet about this issue because I will not give a support message on social media for someone I do not vouch for. I want to examine the incident from all angles and will make a clear assessment. Ahmet Özer is an elected official, but I have never encountered him in my life. I want to state that I believe in the presumption of innocence."
Burcu Köksal, on the other hand, only shared the call from CHP Chairman Özgür Özel to Esenyurt Square on her social media account and did not make any written or verbal statements.
KÖKSAL'S SCHEDULE REVEALEDThe schedule of Burcu Köksal, who did not attend the public meeting in Esenyurt, has emerged. On the day of the rally, Köksal visited Afyonkarahisar Provincial Police Chief Mahmut Ay. Photos of Köksal and Ay were shared on the social media account of the Afyonkarahisar Police Department.
