In the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 10 people lost their lives when a passenger bus carrying tourists overturned on a mountain road near the city of Petropolis. The bus crashed while traveling from Belo Horizonte to the beaches in Rio de Janeiro. Two of the injured in the accident died in the hospital. The road remained closed to traffic for about 4 hours, and the police launched an investigation into the incident.

THE BUS WAS CARRYING TOURISTS

According to a statement from the Rio de Janeiro state fire department, the bus carrying tourists overturned yesterday at around 4:30 a.m. local time on a mountainous road near the city of Petropolis. Teams arriving at the scene initially determined that 8 people had died, while it was reported that 2 of the injured taken to the hospital could not be saved despite intervention.

THE ROAD WAS CLOSED TO TRAFFIC FOR 4 HOURS DUE TO THE ACCIDENT

The Brazilian Federal Highway Police stated that the bus departed from Belo Horizonte, the capital of the neighboring state of Minas Gerais, and was heading toward the beaches in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The road, which was closed to traffic for about 4 hours due to the accident, was reopened, while police teams launched an investigation into the incident.
