After footage showing that headscarved students were not admitted to classes in some schools in Azerbaijan, a statement came from artist Roza Ibadova Kocamaz. Kocamaz, who appeared before the camera wearing a headscarf, appealed to President Ilham Aliyev.
SUPPORTED HEADSCARVED STUDENTS
Kocamaz said she expected a step from Aliyev so that students could continue their education. Stating that she believed the problem experienced could be solved by the president's decision, the artist expressed her trust in her state.
PRACTICES IN SCHOOLS ARE DEBATED
It is stated that there is no provision explicitly banning the headscarf in the student clothing regulation adopted in the country on September 21. Nevertheless, footage showing that headscarved students were turned away in some schools brought along debates on the right to education and freedom of belief.
