Canada Opens Embassy In Armenia To Improve Ties

Move will increase ‘Canadian support for Armenian democracy,’ says Canadian foreign minister.

Canada's foreign minister announced the opening of an embassy Wednesday in Armenia.
"Canada is opening an embassy in Armenia. This will allow for stronger ties between our countries and increased Canadian support for Armenian democracy," Melanie Joy wrote on Twitter.
"Canada will work to protect peace and democracy globally" as the rules ensuring "stability and security are challenged," she added.
Joy later announced an "increasing diplomatic footprint" of Canada in Estonia, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Latvia amid Russia's war on Ukraine.
Canadian Global Affairs said the country is "converting current Canadian offices in Estonia, Lithuania, and Slovakia – countries with strong and growing bilateral ties with Canada and key NATO Allies – into full embassies with resident ambassadors" while also strengthening its presence at its embassy in Latvia.
"These changes will further enhance Canada's engagement in the region, help counter Russia's destabilizing activities and increase support for Operation Reassurance," it added. -
