In the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, elements affiliated with the country's two important security and intelligence institutions, the SBU and the HUR, engaged in an armed clash in the middle of the street. Three HUR members were injured in the incident, and the parties blamed each other for firing first. Zelensky described the events as 'shameful' and ordered an investigation.

In the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, on the morning of September 2, an armed clash occurred between the country's own security and intelligence units. Elements affiliated with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry faced off in the middle of the street.

Footage of the incident on Yuriia Shumskoho Street in the city's Dniprovskyi district has also emerged. The images showed the tension between the parties quickly turning into an armed confrontation.

3 INTELLIGENCE MEMBERS WOUNDED

It was reported that 3 HUR members were wounded in the clash. Following the incident, police cordoned off the area, and the street was closed to traffic for a while.

Conflicting statements were made regarding which side fired the first shot.

BOTH SIDES BLAMED EACH OTHER

While HUR sources claimed that the first shot was fired by the SBU, the SBU side argued that HUR members attempted to forcibly rescue a detainee and that they fired the first shot.

The SBU announced that a search was being conducted at an address as part of an investigation into an alleged attack planned by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB).

It was stated that a group forcefully resisted the investigation team during the search, prompting the SBU's Alpha special operations unit to be dispatched to the area.

ZELENSKY: SHAMEFUL

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also reacted to the armed clash between the country's two security institutions.

Zelensky described the events as "shameful" and ordered all details of the incident to be revealed. It was stated that internal investigations would be conducted in both institutions and that personnel changes would be made regarding those involved.

Zelensky also emphasized that weapons in Ukraine should be used against Russian forces, not among the country's own security forces.
