CHP Elazığ Deputy Gürsel Erol protested the low attendance of the AK Party group during the discussions of the Climate Law Proposal in the Turkish Grand National Assembly by remaining silent at the podium. Gürsel remained silent for about 5 minutes, while the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Bekir Bozdağ, made a joke saying, "There is a buzz in the general assembly. The speaker's message is not fully understood," which made the deputies laugh.
The discussions on the Climate Law proposal in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) were marked by the protest of CHP Elazığ Deputy Gürsel Erol. Erol, who came to the podium to speak, criticized the AK Party group for their low attendance in the General Assembly.
CHP'S EROL STAGES A "SILENCE" PROTEST AT THE PARLIAMENT PODIUM
CHP Deputy Erol stated that he would use a significant portion of his 10-minute speaking time in silence, saying, "The AK Party group only comes to vote in the General Assembly. They don't even know what they are voting for. Therefore, instead of using my remaining 7 minutes and 42 seconds to speak, I will silently wait here to protest the AK Party group for not being present here, as they do not support the law proposal they brought."
TBMM VICE PRESIDENT BOZDAĞ: THE SPEAKER'S INTENT IS NOT UNDERSTOOD
TBMM Vice President Bekir Bozdağ, who warned Erol to end his protest, made a joke that caused laughter in the Assembly. Bozdağ said, "Dear members of parliament. There is a buzz in the General Assembly. The speaker's intent is not fully understood."
As Erol continued his protest, Bozdağ intervened again. Bozdağ said, "You made a silent address. The purpose has been achieved. Please use your remaining time. The podium is a place for addressing. Your intent has been understood by the General Assembly. It would be nice if you complete the remaining part in accordance with the internal regulations. Otherwise, I will suspend the General Assembly." After standing silently at the podium for about 5 minutes, Erol then returned to his seat.
