CHP Spokesperson Müslim Sarı made evaluations to journalists regarding the phone call that took place between New Party Chairman Özgür Özel and the Mayor of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality and the Union of Municipalities of Turkey, Vahap Seçer.
Drawing attention to Seçer's speech at the 2nd Kardeş Göçerler Yörük Event, Sarı said, "Mr. Vahap clearly said here that I will engage in politics."
Reacting to Özel, Sarı stated, "Why is Özel sending a message to a CHP mayor? He should stop harassing CHP mayors. He is now the chairman of another party and should act accordingly. Political ethics require this."
KILIÇDAROĞLU'S FIRST PROVINCIAL CHAIRPERSONS MEETING
CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu met with provincial chairpersons for the first time after his return to duty. During the meeting held at CHP Headquarters yesterday, CHP executives made presentations to provincial chairpersons on membership and organization issues, and congress and convention processes were also evaluated.
PROVINCIAL CHAIRPERSONS EXPLAINED THE DIFFICULTIES THEY FACED
It was learned that during the meeting, provincial chairpersons conveyed the difficulties they experienced in the field and the work they plan to carry out. It was noted that provincial chairpersons who spoke at the meeting reacted to the debates over the CHP Chairmanship, and it was stated that provincial chairpersons supported Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's Chairmanship. CHP sources noted that the provincial chairpersons' support for Kılıçdaroğlu would continue during the convention process.
Stating that the meeting was "very positive and very substantive," CHP officials said, "Provincial chairpersons analyze very well. They express their expectations from Headquarters. They explain the political positions Headquarters can take. There is an awareness that they have undertaken a great responsibility in the new period."
"THE BALANCE BETWEEN MAYORS AND THE ORGANIZATION HAS BEEN DISRUPTED"
In the provincial chairpersons meeting, Kılıçdaroğlu said, "The TBMM group, that is, parliamentarians, cannot determine party policy either. They voice the determined party policy in the TBMM; that is their duty. Mayors are the implementers of the determined party policy in the field. For example, we say 'A nursery will be opened.' The mayor opens a nursery; he is the implementer. 'Aid will be given to the poor.' Aid is given. He will pay the debt of a person whose electricity was cut off because he did not pay his debt and ensure that electricity is provided to his home. Therefore, our mayors are also implementers."
Evaluating Kılıçdaroğlu's remarks, party officials drew attention to the balance between mayors and party organizations, saying, "We plan to further strengthen our organizations in the coming period. We have seen that the balance between mayors and the organization has been disrupted recently. Now we want to re-establish this balance."
"THE BODY CANNOT BE HERE AND THE SOUL ELSEWHERE"
Evaluating the mayors' transition to the New Party and the indecisive attitudes of some mayors, officials stated that those who want to remain within CHP's corporate identity must act accordingly, saying, "We expect mayors and council members to clearly declare their political positions. The body cannot be here and the soul elsewhere. No political party would accept this."
"MANSUR YAVAŞ IS CHP'S MAYOR"
CHP officials also made an assessment regarding Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, stating that Yavaş is CHP's mayor, and said, "We constantly talk and meet with Mr. Mansur. There is no problem in terms of communication. Perhaps we will see him more at party events in the coming days."
