Furkan Baktemur, who went to the Karapınar Drivers and Automobile Tradesmen's Chamber in Konya to change his license plate, filed a complaint with the Konya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office after being charged 150 TL under the name of 'service fee'.
Furkan Baktemur (28), who runs a gas cylinder business in Konya, went to the Chamber of Drivers and Automobile Tradesmen in the city center to change the license plate known to the public as 'APP'. Seeing the crowd there, Baktemur went to the Chamber of Drivers and Automobile Tradesmen in Karapınar, 100 kilometers away, to change his license plate.
ADDITIONAL FEE REQUESTED
However, according to allegations, he paid an additional fee of 150 TL requested by the Chamber under the name of 'Service fee'. On the other hand, officials from the Konya Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen stated that no fee could be requested for license plate changes.
FILED A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT ABOUT THE CHAMBER
When Baktemur learned that the additional fee of 150 TL taken from him was illegal, he filed a criminal complaint against the relevant chamber with the Konya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Describing what happened, Baktemur said: "I went to the Karapınar Chamber of Drivers and Automobile Tradesmen to apply for changing my 'APP' license plate. A friend of mine also went with me to change his license plate. The officials there asked us for an additional fee of 150 TL under the name of 'Service fee'. My friend and I paid 150 TL each. While the license plate was being printed, we called the Turkish Federation of Drivers and Automobile Tradesmen. We asked whether the requested money was legal or not. They told us, 'This money is not legal.' They said that no such money could be requested from us in any way. When we went back to collect the plates, we asked the officials, 'You are requesting this money; but is this money legal?' They told us, 'It is legal, but it does not cover the cost.' Later, I said that I had recorded our conversation on video. I filed a criminal complaint against the relevant Chamber with this recording and other evidence. My friend also filed a complaint since he was similarly victimized. 150 TL is a small amount, not just the price of a coffee; but we initiated a legal struggle to seek our rights so that this illegal money is not taken from other people."

Furkan Baktemur's lawyer, Hasan Yılmaz, also stated, "Our client completed his official transactions at the notary before going to the license plate printing workshop on the eve of the holiday and paid the necessary expenses. Based on that, he went to the license plate printing workshop and faced some illegalities there. An additional fee of around 150 TL was requested from my client and other citizens by the Karapınar Chamber of Drivers, and it was concluded in our discussions that this fee was illegal, and we filed a criminal complaint with the Konya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. We will follow this process to the end. Although the transaction may seem like a small amount, we want to emphasize that this transaction is illegal, that our citizens need to be cautious, that they have legal rights in this matter, and that actions taken to recover the amounts paid by applying to the relevant places constitute a crime, and that they have the right to complain," he said. An official from the Karapınar Chamber of Drivers and Automobile Tradesmen, who spoke to DHA reporter by phone, stated that the fee was collected due to the non-deformed quality paint used in the license plate printing and that a receipt was issued, adding that no fee is charged when a standard painted plate is requested.
