After the 5.1 magnitude earthquake, which had its epicenter in the Yenicekent neighborhood of Buldan district in Denizli, more than 150 aftershocks occurred in the region.
THE REGION WAS SHAKEN BY SUCCESSIVE EARTHQUAKES
The aftershocks, the largest of which reached a magnitude of 4.5, caused great fear and panic among the local population. Following the successive tremors, citizens headed to areas they deemed safe. Some citizens went to their country houses, while others took refuge in prefabricated structures in their gardens. Many people, unable to enter their homes due to the fear of earthquakes, had to spend the night in their vehicles.
Some citizens spent the night outside by lighting a fire in front of their homes, while others waited for morning by taking shelter in their businesses. Due to the continued aftershocks, the local population remains anxious.
"WE WERE VERY SCARED OF THE AFTERSHOCKS AT NIGHT"
Ahmet Kök, a resident of the Yenicekent neighborhood, expressed that they took refuge in a prefabricated house outside the village and were scared due to the aftershocks, saying, "We are staying in the prefabricated houses outside our village because of this disaster that has happened to us. I gathered my siblings, my children, and my grandchildren, and we came here. We feel a bit more comfortable here. We were very scared in the houses inside our village. We came here so that our children wouldn't panic. Right now, there are 6 families here. We were scared of the aftershock that happened at night. I just walked around the village; some of my friends are sleeping in their cars with their families," he said.
"WE ARE WAITING OUTSIDE BY LIGHTING A FIRE, WE ARE SLEEPING IN THE VEHICLE"
Ali Çakır, a neighborhood resident, stated that they were waiting outside by lighting a fire at night, saying, "We are spending the night outside in the safest way due to the aftershocks. Right now, the safest place is outside. We are waiting by lighting a fire outside, we are sleeping in the vehicle. Everyone is outside; this is the safest way."
