The Competition Authority approved A101's acquisition of Carrefour in exchange for six commitments aimed at protecting competition. Under the decision, a total of 48 stores will be divested in regions with intense competition, Carrefour will maintain its independent structure, and the current employment level will be sustained for three years. Additionally, support programs for SMEs, women entrepreneurs, and local producers will be implemented.
The Competition Authority has completed its review of A101's acquisition of Carrefour. The Authority decided that the concerns that competition in the market could be negatively affected were addressed by the commitments submitted by A101 and approved the acquisition.
48 STORES TO BE DIVESTED
Under the decision, a total of 48 stores in regions where competitive concerns are concentrated will be divested. Of these, 10 will be A101 stores and 38 will be Carrefour stores.
CARREFOUR WILL MAINTAIN ITS INDEPENDENT STRUCTURE
The Competition Authority's conditions also included the preservation of the organizational structure of the two companies. Accordingly, Carrefour will continue to conduct its activities with an independent organizational structure.
NO LAYOFFS FOR 3 YEARS
A significant commitment to protect the rights of employees during the acquisition process was also accepted. The total number of employees of A101 and Carrefour will be maintained at its current level for three years. Thus, the aim will be to preserve employment during this process.
SUPPORT FOR SMEs AND WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS
A101 will provide at least 75 SMEs and local producers each year with in-store visibility, display, catalog, digital sales, and marketing support. Additionally, practices will be implemented to include women entrepreneurs in the program and to ensure that local products and domestic agricultural products find more space on shelves.
