BACKGROUND OF THE INCIDENT
Former Special Operations Department Head Behçet Oktay, who was found in Ankara in 2009 with a gunshot wound to the head in his parked car, died at the hospital where he was taken. In the investigation conducted regarding the incident, it was assessed that Oktay committed suicide with his own gun, and a decision of non-prosecution was issued in the file.
However, Oktay's family claims that the armed terrorist organization FETÖ had a role in his death and demands that the file be re-examined comprehensively.
In this context, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek met with Behçet Oktay's son Burak Oktay and his sister Şule Oktay at the Ministry of Justice.
WHO IS BEHÇET OKTAY?
Former Special Operations Department Head Behçet Oktay was born on July 17, 1957, in the Hekimhan district of Malatya. After graduating from the Police College and the Police Academy, he served in various provinces. In 1997, he was appointed as the Head of the Special Operations Department of the General Directorate of Security and is cited as one of the three names who established the Police Special Operations organization.
Oktay, who was awarded the Turkish Armed Forces Golden Medal of Superior Courage and Self-Sacrifice, was found dead next to his vehicle in Ankara on February 25, 2009.
