A striking statement came from Greece regarding the maritime jurisdiction areas agreement signed between Turkey and Libya. Former Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis criticized Turkey's policies in the Aegean Sea, saying, "From now on, we will not be able to do anything in the Aegean without Turkey's permission."

Libya's House of Representatives approving the Maritime Jurisdiction Areas Delimitation Agreement signed with Turkey in 2019 has caused debate in Greece.

The latest statement on the agreement came from Kostas Karamanlis, who served as Prime Minister of Greece between 2004 and 2009.

"WE CANNOT DO ANYTHING WITHOUT TURKEY'S PERMISSION"

Speaking at an event held for retired officers at the War Museum in Athens, Karamanlis claimed that Turkey was pursuing a comprehensive plan aimed at invalidating Greece's arguments in the Aegean.

Expressing his concern about Turkey's policies on maritime jurisdiction areas, Karamanlis said, "From now on, we will not be able to do anything in the Aegean without Turkey's permission."

CALL TO THE GREEK GOVERNMENT

Karamanlis argued that Greece should not accept requesting permission from Turkey to lay cables on the seabed. He stated that making such a request under the name of notification, announcement, or any other name would not change the situation.

Describing the Turkey-Libya memorandum as "undoubtedly a negative development" for Greece's interests, the former Prime Minister called on the Greek government to act quickly on the issue.
