US Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar said her address was exposed after federal agents conducted an approximately five-hour search at her home in Washington on October 12. Omar, stating that she had received death threats, announced that she can no longer stay in that house with her children. The government, however, did not disclose what crime Omar was charged with.
US Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar said that after federal agents searched her home in Washington, she can no longer live in that house. According to the BBC, Omar is concerned that her address was revealed after the raid.
In an interview with MS Now, Omar said, "Given the death threats I receive, it is no longer possible to stay in that house with my children." This was the Minnesota representative's first interview after the search.
15-25 AGENTS SEARCHED THE HOUSE FOR 5 HOURS
According to Omar, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents arrived at her door around 06:00 on the morning of October 12. Omar said that 15 to 25 agents surrounded the house, that she asked for the search warrant at the door, and that the agents searched the rooms one by one for about five hours.
The agents took 17 items from the house, including cell phones, notebooks, and her spouse's camera from the 1960s. According to information reported in the press, personal computers and a passport were also among the items seized.
THE CHARGE HAS STILL NOT BEEN ANNOUNCED
The government did not disclose what crime Omar is accused of; it stated that the search was "part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation." More than a dozen subpoenas were also sent to Omar's family members as part of the investigation. The search came after officials' statements questioning the US citizenship Omar obtained after her arrival from Kenya in 2000.
OBAMA: EXTREMELY EMBARRASSING
Omar had described the search as "an unbelievably bad abuse of authority." Former US President Barack Obama also criticized the investigation as "extremely embarrassing." President Donald Trump said he had nothing to do with the investigation, while Omar argued that Trump was "completely involved in it."
