In the scope of the corruption and money laundering investigation conducted in Armenia, a detention warrant has been issued against numerous former high-ranking officials, including former Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan, former Minister of Finance Gagik Khachatryan, and former Minister of Defense Vigen Sargsyan. The investigation centers on allegations of the unlawful transfer of a university property.
A broad investigation has been launched against former senior state officials in Armenia.
According to information reported by Armenia's official news agency Armenpress, many individuals, including former Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan, former Minister of Finance Gagik Khachatryan, and former Minister of Defense Vigen Sargsyan, are accused of abusing their positions between 2009 and 2016.
ALLEGED UNIVERSITY PROPERTY TRANSFER
The investigation file includes an allegation that a 451.1 square meter property belonging to Brusov State University was removed from public ownership and then registered in the name of Artyom Khachatryan, son of former Minister of Finance Gagik Khachatryan, through a fraudulent sale transaction.
It was reported that within the scope of the investigation, arrest warrants were also issued for the university's former rector Gayane Gasparyan and former vice-rector Artur Avagyan.
MANY FORMER OFFICIALS IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Authorities stated that the investigation covers allegations of corruption and money laundering, and noted that examinations related to the case are ongoing.
It was noted that during the relevant period, Vigen Sargsyan served as the chairman of the university's board of directors, Armen Ashotyan served as the Minister of Education and Science, and Gagik Khachatryan served as the Minister of Finance and Chairman of the State Revenue Committee.
