Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has traveled to Beijing, the capital of China, to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. According to China's state media Xinhua, the two ministers discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments during their meeting.
IRAN ON A SUPPORT TOUR
Iran's Foreign Ministry announced that Araghchi has been continuing his diplomatic contacts in recent weeks to garner international support regarding the ongoing crisis with the US and Israel.
CHINA IS THE LARGEST BUYER OF IRANIAN OIL
China stands out as one of Iran's closest partners while also being the largest buyer of Tehran's crude oil. The Beijing administration had been increasing its diplomatic contacts in recent weeks, calling for an end to the conflicts.
RUBIO'S CALL TO CHINA
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had previously called on China to convey to Araghchi that Iran's actions have isolated the country on a global scale.
CRITICAL CONTACT AHEAD OF TRUMP'S CHINA VISIT
Araghchi's visit to Beijing coincides with the planned visit of US President Donald Trump to China. Trump is expected to hold a face-to-face meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the visit.
