Dermatologist Dr. Muhammed Adak from Mardin's Midyat State Hospital warned citizens about sun protection due to rising summer temperatures.

Experts warned citizens against the negative effects of sun rays on skin health with rising temperatures in the summer months. It was stated that protecting from the sun between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM is vital.

WARNING FROM EXPERT AGAINST SUMMER HEAT

Dr. Muhammed Adak, a Dermatology and Venereal Diseases Specialist at Midyat State Hospital, stated that air temperatures have reached high levels, especially in the Southeastern Anatolia Region, and noted that although sun rays are necessary for life, prolonged and unprotected exposure can have negative effects on skin health.

Adak emphasized that ultraviolet (UV) rays increase the risk of sunburn, skin spots, premature aging, and skin cancer, and stated that it is very important to acquire the habit of sun protection at any age.

PAY ATTENTION TO THESE MEASURES FOR SUN PROTECTION

Providing information about the measures to be taken for sun protection, Adak said, "Attention should be paid to the hours when the sun is intense. Between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, when sun rays are most effective, direct exposure to the sun should be avoided as much as possible. Sunscreen products suitable for skin type should be applied approximately 20 minutes before going outside.

“BODY LOSES MORE WATER IN HOT WEATHER”

It is important to reapply protectants after swimming in the sea, pool, or excessive sweating. Light-colored and long-sleeved clothes, wide-brimmed hats, and UV-protective sunglasses provide protection against the harmful effects of the sun. The body loses more water in hot weather.

BABIES, CHILDREN, AND ELDERLY CAUTION

Adequate water should be consumed throughout the day without waiting for the feeling of thirst. Babies, children, and elderly individuals are more sensitive to the harmful effects of the sun. Care should be taken to ensure these groups do not stay under the sun for long periods. Symptoms such as headache, weakness, dizziness, nausea, high fever, and skin redness can be signs of sunstroke.

CONSUME PLENTY OF FLUIDS

In such cases, the person should be taken to a cool environment, ensured to consume plenty of fluids, and a nearby health institution should be consulted if necessary. Protecting from the sun is important not only in summer but throughout the year. With simple precautions, we can both protect our skin health and safely protect ourselves from the harmful effects of the sun," he said.
