Czech gymnast Natalie Stichova, 23, lost her life while taking a selfie near the famous Neuschwanstein Castle in the Bavaria region of Germany. Stichova fell from a height of about 80 meters on Tegelberg Mountain in the accident that occurred on August 15.
According to her friends, Natalie had approached too close to the edge of the mountain while trying to take a perfect Instagram photo in front of the castle and lost her balance. She was accompanied by two friends and her boyfriend David at the time of the accident.
Natalie, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition, lost her six-day battle for life on August 21. Her family decided to withdraw life support due to irreversible brain damage.
Natalie was a well-known sports star in her country and an active user on social media. She often shared photos she took on mountain peaks. She had recently started training young athletes as well.
Sokol Pribram Gymnastics Club remembered Natalie as someone who "radiated smiles around her" and announced that candles could be lit in sports halls to show respect for her memory.
This tragic incident once again highlighted the serious risks of taking dangerous photos for social media. A similar tragedy occurred recently in Myanmar, where a young girl lost her life while taking a selfie on a waterfall summit for her TikTok followers.
