The harvest of rock honey from beehives located on steep cliffs in the Aydınlı village of Gercüş district has begun. Physical education teacher Yalçın Yıldız descends with ropes onto cliffs ranging from 50 to 600 meters in height for the rock honey harvest. Yıldız, who has mountaineering training, hangs by rope at heights of meters and removes the honeycombs from their location. The moments of Yıldız's harvest also attract the attention of those around. While rock honey obtained by natural methods is sold for 15,000 TL per kilogram, the moments of Yıldız's harvest were also captured by drone.
"I TRY TO OPEN 2-3 NESTS A DAY"
Stating that there is an abundance of rock honey this year, Yıldız said, "We descend onto the rocks and extract natural rock honey. This year, there is an excessive amount of rock honey. I try to open 2-3 nests a day. Sometimes, because it is very high, we can't keep up, but in places where the height is not too much, we manage to open 2-3 at once. I started the harvest about a week ago. We are still continuing. I usually work as a physical education teacher. I do this as a hobby, and I really enjoy it. Throughout the summer, I go to various places and extract rock honey. When there is a surplus, we try to sell it as a team."
