In a statement from Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), it was announced that the number of people who lost their lives in the incident has risen to 788, and that 2,502 people are still unaccounted for.
NEWLY FORMED LAKE LARGELY EMPTIED
China's state news agency Xinhua, citing China's Ministry of Water Resources, reported that the new lake formed in the region after the floods in the upper reaches had largely emptied.
RISK STILL PRESENT
However, Xinhua reported that the Ministry warned that the crater, located about 5.6 kilometers upstream and holding an estimated 1.4 million cubic meters of water, still poses a risk and needs to be closely monitored.
16 DEAD AND 546 MISSING IN CHINA
In the latest statement from Chinese officials, it was reported that in the disaster in the Nepal-China border region, 16 people lost their lives on the Chinese side of the border, and 546 people are still unaccounted for.
