The Mayor of Eşme, Yılmaz Tozan, and two municipal employees were arrested as part of an "embezzlement" investigation in Uşak. The detained Mayor Tozan's wife, Burcu Tozan, was released.
In the investigation conducted by the Eşme Chief Public Prosecutor's Office under the coordination of the Uşak Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Mayor Yılmaz Tozan, his wife Burcu Tozan, Mayor Tozan's driver M.F, I.U. who works in the Eşme Municipality Zoning Directorate, municipal staff H.D., and Eşme Municipality CHP Council Member R.S.S. were transferred to the Eşme Courthouse.
MAYOR AND 2 EMPLOYEES ARRESTED
As part of the investigation, Yılmaz Tozan's private secretary S.B. was also detained. After the prosecutor's interrogation, suspects Council Member R.S.S. and municipal staff H.D. were released.
Mayor Yılmaz Tozan, along with his driver M.F. and zoning officer I.U., was requested to be arrested for "establishing, managing, and engaging in corruption for the purpose of committing a crime," while Burcu Tozan and private secretary S.B. were referred to the Duty Magistrate's Court for release under judicial control.
Among the suspects, Mayor Tozan, I.U., and M.F. were arrested. Burcu Tozan and S.B. were released under judicial control.
IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THEY BENEFITED FROM ALCOHOLIC VENUES
It was learned that the suspects benefited from their workplaces regarding the extension of closing hours of alcoholic venues, that unfair profits were obtained by inflating the invoices paid to artists attending the International Eşme Touristic Carpet, Culture, and Art Festival, which is the traditional festival of the district, and that benefits were provided in exchange for inappropriate licenses to some businesses in the district.
Unusual money movements were detected in the account of Tozan's driver M.F.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
As part of the investigation into the crime of "corruption" against the Eşme Municipality, on April 17, Mayor Yılmaz Tozan, his wife Burcu Tozan, Yılmaz Tozan's driver M.F, I.U. who works in the Eşme Municipality Zoning Directorate, and municipal staff H.D. were detained. CHP Eşme Municipality Council Member R.S.S., for whom an arrest warrant had been issued, was also captured.
It was determined that O.Ü. among the suspects was in prison for another crime.
