In the investigation regarding the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, it was decided that there would be no prosecution for certain crimes against 4 children.

Narin Güran, who went missing in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of the central Bağlar district on August 21, 2024, and whose lifeless body was found in the Eğertutmaz stream on September 8, 2024, was the subject of an investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which has now been completed regarding the murder of Narin Güran and the 4 children involved.

DECISION OF NON-PROSECUTION

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office decided that there would be no prosecution for "intentional murder" and "destruction, concealment, or alteration of evidence" against 16-year-old R.A., who is the worker of uncle Salim Güran and was charged with "aiding the offender" with a prison sentence of 6 months to 5 years prepared in an indictment submitted to the Diyarbakır 2nd Children's Court. The decision stated: "Although an investigation was conducted against the juvenile R.A. for the crime of 'aiding intentional murder' based on the initial statements taken, translation content, and the entire file, it was understood that at the stage the file has reached, the nature of the crime has transformed, and the actions constitute the act of 'aiding the offender' as a whole, and an indictment has been prepared for this crime. Therefore, it has been understood that there is insufficient evidence to open a public case regarding the alleged crime of 'intentional murder.'

WHAT HAPPENED?

In the trial of the Narin Güran murder case, the court panel, in a unanimous decision made during the hearing on December 28, 2024, sentenced the detained defendants, mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran, to aggravated life imprisonment for "intentional murder of a child in complicity," and also sentenced Nevzat Bahtiyar, who confessed to hiding Narin's lifeless body in the Eğertutmaz stream, to 4 years and 6 months in prison for "destruction, concealment, or alteration of evidence," and ruled that their detention should continue.

The indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against detained suspects Birsen, Fuat, Maşallah Güran, Mehmet Selim Atasoy (the worker of Salim Güran), Mehmet Şevket Kaya, and Muhammed Kaya, as well as against the suspects not in detention, Şeyma Kaya, Hediye, İbrahim Halil, Barış, Kurtuluş, and Ömer Faruk Güran, was submitted to the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance, while the indictment prepared against the juveniles R.A. and İ.K. was submitted to the 2nd Children's Court the day before yesterday.

In the indictments, prison sentences ranging from 6 months to 5 years for "aiding the offender" were requested for 15 suspects, 6 of whom are detained and 3 of whom are children. On the other hand, it was decided to release detained suspects Hediye Güran and 16-year-old R.A., who is the worker of uncle Salim Güran. The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office decided that there would be no prosecution for certain crimes against 31 suspects within the scope of the ongoing investigation.
