Kalyon, who was released due to being a cancer patient, argued that he had tried to collect the money for months, was threatened, and fired on the day of the incident out of "fear of being killed." He claimed both the moment of the incident and the fraud he alleged occurred during the sales process."}

In the Karamürsel district of Kocaeli, 76-year-old İzzet Kalyon, who allegedly killed a father and son with a gun on the street because he could not get the money for the car he sold, explained the background of the incident after being released. Kalyon, who was given a report stating that it was not appropriate for him to stay in prison conditions due to cancer, said, “I do not kill for money. I fired out of fear of being killed.”

CLAIMED HE COULD NOT GET HIS MONEY FOR 10 MONTHS

The incident occurred on July 3, 2025, at 220th Street in Kayacık neighborhood. According to the claim, İzzet Kalyon encountered Aykut Canımoğlu and his father Mehmet Canımoğlu, from whom he could not collect the payment for a car he sold for 1 million 600 thousand lira about 10 months ago. The argument between the parties quickly escalated.

Kalyon claimed that the argument started when he asked why they did not attend the lawsuit and when they would pay his money, that he was insulted and threatened. During the scuffle, Kalyon fired a gun, killing the father and son.

“SHOWED A RECEIPT, I TRUSTED”

İzzet Kalyon stated that he worked with Aykut Canımoğlu at the same gas station for years and said there was a trust relationship between them. Explaining that a bank receipt was shown to him during the sale of the vehicle, Kalyon expressed that he thought the money had been transferred to his son's account.

Kalyon said, “We ate at the same table for 4 years. He showed me a real receipt. I trusted him, we signed at the notary. Then I called my son, the money had not been transferred.”

“THEY STRUNG US ALONG FOR MONTHS”

Kalyon, who claimed that after the sale, payment was promised many times but the money was never sent, argued that both Aykut Canımoğlu and his family kept postponing them.

Stating that he went to the Canımoğlu family's house many times, Kalyon said, “They strung us along for 10 months, saying 'one week, 15 days, Friday'. Then I learned from the surroundings that there were other victims. That's when I realized I was scammed.”

“People are not shot over money”

Kalyon argued that what happened was not just about money, saying, “People are not shot over money. I earned it by working for 50 years. I was constantly humiliated and threatened.”

Kalyon, who said he left home to go to the hospital on the day of the incident, recounted that he coincidentally encountered the Canımoğlu family.

“HE PUT HIS HAND ON HIS WAIST AND CAME AT ME”

Describing the moment of the incident in detail, Kalyon claimed that during the argument, Aykut Canımoğlu cursed at him and came at him.

“We encountered him while going to the hospital. I asked why they didn't come to court. He said 'You'll get your money from court.' As I was turning back, he cursed behind me. Then he put his hand on his waist and came at me. I knew he had a gun. I got scared and fired,” he said.

Kalyon also alleged that Mehmet Canımoğlu came towards him, saying, “I don't know if he had a gun or a phone in his hand. When he approached me, I shot him too.”

RELEASED DUE TO CANCER REPORT

A report was requested from the Forensic Medicine Institute regarding the health condition of İzzet Kalyon, who was tried for two life sentences for the crime of “premeditated murder.”

The report sent to the court stated that it was not appropriate for the defendant, who was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, to stay in prison conditions. Accordingly, the court panel decided to release Kalyon.

“I REGRET IT, BUT I WAS SCARED”

Kalyon, who said he was sorry about what happened, said, “I regret it. Taking a life is not a good thing. But I thought they would take both my property and my life. I did this out of fear of being killed.”

SON: MY FATHER COULDN'T SLEEP AT NIGHT

Şenol Kalyon, the son of İzzet Kalyon, also said that his father was psychologically worn down over the months.

Şenol Kalyon, who stated that his father repeatedly turned to legal channels, said, “My father couldn't sleep at night. He was constantly withdrawn. He went to everyone's door to get the money. We were constantly being strung along.”

Şenol Kalyon also claimed that there were other allegations of victimization against the Canımoğlu family.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The incident occurred on July 3, 2025, at 220th Street in Kayacık neighborhood. Mehmet Canımoğlu (60) and his son Aykut Canımoğlu (30) were attacked with a gun by İzzet Kalyon (76) in the middle of the street. While the father and son lay bleeding on the ground, the suspect fled the scene. Health teams determined that the father and son had died. İzzet Kalyon was caught by police teams in the Gölcük district and taken into custody. After giving his statement, Kalyon was arrested and sent to prison.

The defendant Kalyon, who was charged with two life sentences for the crime of "premeditated murder," had claimed in his defense at the first hearing that he and the deceased Aykut Canımoğlu had worked at the same workplace in the past, that he sold the car registered in his son's name to him for 1 million 600 thousand lira, but could not get his money after the transfer procedures.

The defendant, who alleged that he coincidentally encountered the victims while going to the hospital on the day of the incident, argued that an argument broke out when he asked about his receivables and that he fired out of fear of being killed.

After the defense, the court panel decided to obtain a report from the Forensic Medicine Institute regarding the health condition of the defendant, who stated he had cancer, and to investigate the existence of guns allegedly belonging to the victims.
