According to information obtained from judicial sources, claims circulating on social media regarding the judicial process related to the traffic accident in Ankara that resulted in the death of 11-year-old Alper Yusuf Polat—specifically allegations that the accident was covered up for political reasons and that the investigation was interfered with—have been stated to be untrue.
In some social media accounts, baseless claims have been shared regarding the judicial process related to the traffic accident in which 11-year-old Alper Yusuf Polat lost his life in Ankara; these claims suggest that the accident was attempted to be covered up due to the political identity of the driver involved, that the investigation was interfered with through political influence, and that the judicial process was conducted with bias.
11-YEAR-OLD ALPER LOST HIS LIFE
In the accident that occurred on June 22, 2026, in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara, the vehicle with license plate 06 HCS 34, driven by Fatih Oral, struck 11-year-old Alper Yusuf Polat, who was riding an electric bicycle. As a result, Alper Yusuf Polat was injured; despite all interventions at the Kahramankazan State Hospital where he was taken, he could not be saved and lost his life.
"FOR THE FINAL DETERMINATION OF FAULT STATUS, THE FILE HAS BEEN SENT TO THE TRAFFIC SPECIALIZATION DEPARTMENT OF THE FORENSIC MEDICINE INSTITUTE"
Following the incident, the Kahramankazan Chief Public Prosecutor's Office immediately launched an investigation, and legal proceedings were initiated against the suspect Fatih Oral for the crime of "causing the death of a person by negligence"; the suspect was taken into custody and referred to the courthouse, brought before the Kahramankazan Criminal Judgeship of Peace with a request for arrest, and was arrested on June 23, 2026, by the decision of the Judgeship with file number 2026/101 Inquiry.
In the traffic accident report prepared by traffic teams, it was assessed that the driver Fatih Oral violated the rule of "not reducing vehicle speed when approaching intersections, bends, and similar places" as regulated in Article 52/1-a of Highway Traffic Law No. 2918, while the electric bicycle rider Alper Yusuf Polat acted contrary to the rule regarding the right of way at an uncontrolled intersection within the scope of Article 57/1-c of the same Law. For the final determination of fault status, the file has been sent by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to the Traffic Specialization Department of the Forensic Medicine Institute.
"THE SUSPECT WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE INCIDENT"
The investigation has been conducted from the very moment of the incident without regard to any individual, institution, political title, or affiliation, entirely in line with evidence and at the discretion of judicial authorities. The suspect's political identity has not led to any privilege, delay, or interference in the judicial proceedings.
On the contrary, the suspect was taken into custody immediately after the incident, referred to the judgeship with a request for arrest, and arrested. Therefore, claims that "the incident was attempted to be covered up," "political influence was used," "the judicial process was interfered with," or "the investigation was conducted with bias" do not reflect the truth. The investigation is being meticulously carried out by the Kahramankazan Chief Public Prosecutor's Office within the framework of all evidence, without any interference.
