The Center for Countering Disinformation stated that the claims that "it is dumping Europe's waste into Turkey" are a serious manipulation that distorts the facts. In the statement, it was noted that the entry of waste for disposal purposes and non-recyclable garbage is prohibited, and that only clean waste imports for raw materials in industry are allowed.

The Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) said regarding the posts in some media outlets and social media accounts claiming that "Europe is dumping its trash in Turkey," that they "contain a severe manipulation that distorts the facts."

"IT IS ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN FOR TRASH TO ENTER TURKEY"

In the post made from DMM's social media account, the following statements were included: "The posts in some media outlets and social media accounts claiming that 'Europe is dumping its trash in Turkey' contain a severe manipulation that distorts the facts. It is absolutely forbidden for waste intended for disposal, hazardous substances, or non-recyclable trash to enter Turkey. Only clean, source-separated waste to be used as raw material in industry is permitted to be imported into our country to be processed at licensed facilities.

No shipment that does not comply with standards is allowed to enter our country; it is immediately returned to the country it came from. Accepted loads are monitored instantaneously by tracking systems from the customs point until they reach the facility. Inspections continue with a zero-tolerance principle against facilities and centers that act contrary to environmental legislation.

"A MALICIOUS PERCEPTION CAMPAIGN"

The fact that the issue is distorted and brought onto the agenda, especially ahead of the COP31 Climate Summit that Turkey will host, clearly shows that it is a malicious perception campaign. We urgently request that no credence be given to such unfounded and misleading content targeting our country, which leads global environmental policies with the Zero Waste Movement, and that only official statements by authorized institutions and authorities be taken as a basis."
