The leader of the İYİ Party, Müsavat Dervişoğlu, visited the leader of the Victory Party, Ümit Özdağ, who is detained in Silivri. Dervişoğlu stated, "I always say this: No weapon is loyal to its owner. Those who use the judiciary as a weapon should know that if they feel it is their own weapon, one day that weapon will turn against them. They said Silivri is cold; it really is cold."
The visit of the İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu to Silivri Marmara Prison, announced to take place on January 30, was postponed due to a "severe flu infection." The visit took place today.
"THEY WANT US TO VOICE OUR REBELLION AGAINST UNJUST ARRESTS"
Dervişoğlu, who visited the leader of the Victory Party, Ümit Özdağ, and the General Director of Halk TV, Suat Toktaş, made a statement upon exiting. He reported that İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Turan Çömez, Istanbul MP Cihan Paçacı, and Victory Party Spokesperson Azmi Karamahmutoğlu accompanied him during the statement, and that Özdağ and Toktaş expressed their high morale and commitment to democracy, law, and justice; he stated, "But they expect us to voice the rebellion against unjust arrests."
"THEY CAN'T EVEN BE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY"
Dervişoğlu, stating that "Turkey must absolutely escape from this legal deadlock," said, "During my visit, I also received information regarding the content of the cases they are being tried for or the investigations they are subject to. It is clear and evident that; within the scope of these investigations, let alone making arrests, it is not even possible for people to be taken into custody."
"A SIGN OF THE DESPOTIC REGIME THEY WANT TO BUILD"
Emphasizing that they will legally defend the process to the end, Dervişoğlu stated, "These are actions aimed at silencing those who raise their voices against injustices in Turkey and are also a sign of the despotic regime they want to build. It is not possible for politics, civil society, intellectuals, and artists to remain silent about this." Dervişoğlu continued: "I always say this. No weapon is loyal to its owner. Those who use the judiciary as a weapon should know that if they feel it is their own weapon, one day that weapon will turn against them. They said Silivri was cold; it really is cold. I send my wishes for patience to everyone inside. I will come again."
"THEY WANT TO CRUSH INSTITUTIONAL OPPOSITION STEP BY STEP"
"İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu personally followed the detention process that resulted in the arrest of Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ from the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan, and met with CHP leader Özgür Özel in the courthouse corridor. He reacted to the arrest by stating, "The paths and methods they follow clearly show that they are as much partners of FETÖ as they are its students. Fabricated investigations through the judiciary, nonsensical decisions, and efforts to target and discredit through the media are today's counterparts of the processes we experienced in the past. Yesterday, they systematically collapsed and entrenched themselves in the judiciary and the military using these methods. Today, they want to step by step crush and entrench themselves in institutional opposition," he said.
