As the provincial and district congresses of the AK Party are completed, in the congresses held in 81 provinces, 75% of the provincial chairpersons and 55% of the district chairpersons have changed. While eyes are on the grand congress scheduled for February 23, a revision in the Cabinet is anticipated, and it is claimed that former Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak will make a return.
After the local election results on March 31, a start was given for internal accounting and change in the AK Party. President Erdoğan had stated in his speeches at different times that changes would be made in the party. The first step for change in the party was taken regarding provincial chairpersons.
FIRST CHANGE IN PROVINCIAL CHAIRS
Initially, changes were made in the provincial chairmanships of Adıyaman, Afyonkarahisar, Erzincan, Gaziantep, Kastamonu, Osmaniye, and Zonguldak upon the instruction of President Erdoğan.
CONGRESS IN 81 PROVINCES
In the AK Party, provincial and district congresses were initiated in October. Congresses were held in 81 provinces. In the congresses that President Erdoğan personally attended in 29 provinces, 75% of the provincial chairpersons and 55% of the district chairpersons were changed. The participation of women in party management at the district level increased by twofold.
FLAG CHANGE IN ISTANBUL
A flag change occurred in critical positions in the AK Party. Osman Nuri Kabaktepe handed over the Istanbul Provincial Chairmanship to Bağcılar Mayor Abdullah Özdemir. A change of duty was also made in the AK Party Women's Branch Presidency. Düzce MP Ayşe Keşir passed her position to Istanbul MP Tuğba Işık Ercan. Eyüp Kadir İnan transferred the Youth Branch Presidency to Yusuf İbiş.
EYES ON THE GRAND CONGRESS
The AK Party will hold its 8th Grand Congress on February 23. It is stated that President Erdoğan may make significant changes to the 75-member MKYK list. Following this, there will also be changes in the MYK, meaning the deputy chairpersons.
CLAIM OF CABINET REVISION
According to a report in Gazeteduvar, a cabinet revision is also expected to coincide with the AK Party's 8th Ordinary Congress. Those who mention the possibility of changes in the Cabinet just before or after the congress talk about a mini revision consisting of 3-4 ministers. The most striking point in the discussions about changes is the claim that former Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak may take on a role in the Cabinet again. Although many AK Party members say this is very unlikely, some politicians note that Albayrak could take on a role in party management.
